Guerrilla Art - 2008 Year End Wrap Up
These photos somehow "slipped through the cracks" and never made their way to the blog until now. I believe all three photos depict free art left on the streets of Kalamazoo, MI. Hopefully the pieces have all found happy homes.
2008 was a stellar year for guerrilla art. My art was seen on the streets of Chicago, San Francisco, Hollywood, New Orleans, Hawaii, Australia, Brasil, Singapore, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, United Kingdom, Tel Aviv and many others.

Illustration Friday - Voices
Originally this was going to be an illustration of John Candy. As I was trying to capture his likeness the facial features seemed more fitting for an aging rock star. As I was searching for rock star photo references I stumbled upon Brett Michaels (Voice of Poison) and James Hetfield (voice of Metallica). I used photo references of Brett Michaels' cowboy hat and the mouth from James Hetfield. This was the result.

Private Collections Photos
Here a couple pics from people who sent photos of what they've done with my art (or rather their art). It's always nice to see my art in their new homes... I wish I had more to show.

Guerrilla Art - Richmond, Virginia
Richmond, VA has an up and coming Free Art movement entitled the "Real Small Art League". The league is headed by a gal named Tiffany Glass Ferreira who has a unique approach using google maps to track free art pieces.
A number of months ago she placed some of my pieces in unique spots around Richmond, VA. One of those unique places happened to be the VCUArts Anderson Gallery.
If anyone is interested in having their art placed in Richmond, VA visit this site for more information:

New Batch of ACEO Cards
I've been in the mood to draw ACEOs (Art Cards) lately.
Here's the definition for ACEOs:
ACEOs are known as Art Card Editions and Originals. These 2.5" x 3.5" cards are also referred to as Artist Trading Cards (ATC). These Small Format Art (SFA) pieces are created in a wide variety of media.

FREE ART Event - Belfast
Earlier in the week my art was on "very temporary" display at the University of Belfast. I was among over one hundred other street artists taking part in the "It's Yours, Take It" free art project. We all submitted art that was going to be free for the taking. Turns out, once people converged on the event, all the art was gone in 10 minutes.

Anthony Bourdain Fan Art
I decided to experiment with the Shepard Fairey style of illustration he used on the popular Obama poster. So being a fan of the Travel Channel's "Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations" I thought he'd make a good subject.

700 Mole Men Submission
#160 - Miss Artemisia Soilchurn, a wormwool carder
This is my submission to the 700 Mole Men project. Mole men names are based on a recently published book by John Hodgman. The names are all odd, but I felt like challenging myself with this one.

Guerrilla Art - Scotts, Michigan
Brazilian artist, sola e a comedia da vida seca sent me some of his free art to place around my "stomping grounds". In this case it was placed at the old mill and an old gas station in Scotts, Michigan. The piece left at the mill was found quickly by a young boy who was thrilled with his find.

A Recent Batch of ACEO Drawings
I haven't drawn any art cards (ACEOs) in awhile so I decided to take some time this this week to draw a few. Usually I ink the characters but I really felt like breaking out the pencils lately.

Pop Culture Vector Art Portraits
For the past couple days I've had this inexplicable urge to illustrate Charles Bronson... well I drew Charles Bronson, then things really got out of hand and I wound up illustrating Grizzly Adams and Jack. Fortunately, I don't have any urges to illustrate ALF or Doogie Howser.

Quirky New Illustration
One night last week I was in the mood to draw some wings, some skulls, brain matter, an old boat and a squid. As a result I decided to combine all those things into this really busy illustration.

Collabs with noitaN - Bonus Saves - Itzy
Last weekend noitaN, Itzy, Bonus Saves and myself got together for an impromptu art hook-up. It was a great day for it too. It rained mercilessly and at one point there was a tornado warning... we kept painting and drawing (despite concerns from relatives). Lo and behold Ten hours later we emerged with some crazy lookin' pieces.

Collaboration with Tricia Anders
Tricia Anders and I recently completed a collaboration piece. She supplied me her drawing and I added elements of my own. The finished piece turned out really well that I thought it'd be fun to apply the design to a pair of shoes (via Zazzle.com).
I'm a huge fan of Tricia's art. Her work is amazingly imaginative. Go check her out work here:

NoLa RISING Art Submission
Recently I submitted a cardboard painting to the NOLA RISING Free Art Campaign. According to the NOLA RISING website: "NoLa Rising is a post-Katrina art campaign encouraging people in all faubourgs of Greater New Orleans to publicly display works of art, regardless of how simple or untutored it may seem to be, for the purpose of rebuilding and restoring the human spirit in our city. NOLA is a unique and beautiful city that has historically embraced the spirit of personal freedom that supports the growth of the artist, musician and writer ... the goal of the NoLa Rising Project is to showcase that spirit."
Many thanks to Rex Dingler for taking the photo of the woman who chose to take my painting home.

Guerrilla Art - Chicago
Painting in progress
Finished painting
The paintings new owner
A couple weeks ago, fellow Kalamazoo guerrilla artist Bonus Saves and I, collaborated on our largest cardboard painting to date. The cardboard painting measures conservatively 4 foot by 8 foot. I painted the large two faced character and Bonus incorporated his blue characters.
Bonus is very active in the Chicago street art scene so he took this piece during one of his visits. As with all our art it's free for the taking. On this rare occasion the finder contacted Bonus with a photo of her new found art. In the world of guerrilla art having the finder make contact with the artist is pretty rare.
