Some were drawn traditionally while others were drawn using the iPad and various drawing apps.
This image popped into my head a couple weeks ago... fortunately I was able to find some time to get it on paper. (Copic pens, sharpie markers on 8.5" x 11" marker paper.)
finding the right combination of iPad apps that allow me to draw more
naturally... so far no app works as well as traditional paper and
pencil. However, for adding quick color to my drawings I'm liking the
iPad and Procreate app.
Spent part of this weekend designing and illustrating a few new lunch bags for my etsy shop. Among the new designs are lunch bags featuring portraits of Jules Verne, HG Wells, Nikola Tesla. My etsy shop is currently filled with over 100 quirky and humorous lunch bag designs. These lunch bag designs make perfect gifts for co-workers or yourself.
After a four year absence from etsy, I decided to open my online storefront again. At the time, it was a lot of fun selling and designing lunch bags, but life became way too busy, forcing me to close the storefront. However, this year felt like a good year to reopen. So for the past month I've been adding new designs/illustrations bringing the total to over 100.
This summer I discovered a Ruby-throated Hummingbird feeding on flowers near the beach at Sunset Lake (Vicksburg, MI). It flew around for over twenty minutes allowing me to get nearly 200 photos from multiple angles. I think I can happily cross off "getting a hummingbird photo" from my photography wish list.
I just stumbled upon this photography project while searching my hard drive. Last year I took photos from the same location and same time of day over the course of a couple weeks. I stitched them together panoramically. I found it interesting how drastic the lake ice changed, as well as the variations of sky color.
As I was drifting off to sleep the other night I had this odd idea to stick a bunch of one dimensional cardboard boats in the lake. (This is my experimental boat). I have to say I'm pretty pleased with the results given that it took me an hour and 45 minutes to draw, paint, cut, assemble and photograph… just before it started to rain. sammohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03803503979689986989noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10705331.post-14002923926028769002013-03-24T20:22:00.002-04:002013-03-24T20:22:21.489-04:00
This is my drawing of Lt. Joe Kenda and is part of my ongoing "Obscure Personality Portrait Series" depicting influential and interesting people many may have never heard of. Lt. Joe Kenda is the subject of Investigation Discovery's TV series "Homicide Hunter". What I find fascinating about Kenda is that he's solved 387 murders and that his success rate is 92%. In addition to his amazing ability to solve murders, he has a really interesting delivery style when discussing what goes through his mind while investigating. (Season 2 of Homicide Hunter is now airing Tuesdays at 9:00pm).sammohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03803503979689986989noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10705331.post-17861510631506809992012-10-13T11:49:00.001-04:002012-10-13T11:49:09.297-04:00Obscure Personality Portrait Series - David Simon & David Chase
In recent years, during my lunch hours, I watched a lot of past TV shows on DVD. Two of my favorite TV shows have been Northern Exposure and The Rockford Files. Recently I discovered an interesting connection between the two shows. David Chase has produced, written and/or directed numerous episodes for each show. (He is also the creator of HBO's The Sopranos). So that gave me an idea to begin the "Obscure Personality Portrait Series" which depicts influential people many have never heard of.
This is my drawing of David Simon, also part of my ongoing "Obscure

of two of my favorite TV series, NBC's Homicide: Life on the Streets and

that guy and what's his story. So after a bit of research I finally
found his name and was shocked to see the list of his 2000+ albums upon

One of my favorite Sunday morning activities is to watch the political talk shows. I follow politics in a similar way that people follow sports. Politics and democracy, for me, are spectator sports. Granted, I don't particularly like the "players" on either side but I do find it fascinating to watch. That being said, one of my favorite "democracy commentators" has been George Will. No one can take obscure, boring historical & political facts and spin them into laugh out loud punch lines. Anyway, here's a portrait of George Will that I finally found time to complete.
